The wedding was set in DeBarge Vineyards, way out in the middle of nowhere Lafayette, GA. Truly one of the most stunning settings for a ceremony I’ve ever seen.
The owners of the vineyard built this grand outdoor event hall for their daughter who wanted to be married on the family property. Bryan and Caitlin were the first couple to actually pay to use the site, so they truly have a unique wedding experience! The unspoiled natural setting was breathtaking at every turn.
The forecast threatened rain all week, but the sun was gracious enough to be out the whole weekend, highlighting the rolling green-carpeted mountains. Bryan and Caitlin exchanged their vows under a bright blue sky surrounded by family and friends.
And Jeff made for a dapper groomsman!
The wedding party…
And the moment you’ve all been waiting for…the finished wedding cake!
I’m very proud of this cake, it came very close to the look I intended and Caitlin was very pleased. The poor thing though, it was over 80 degrees out the whole day and the fondant was starting to look shiny and the stripes were holding on for their dear lives!
But the real question is: “How did it taste?”
Delicious! The vanilla cake was still soft and buttery, the buttercream wasn’t melting in the slightest, and there was just the right amount of strawberry jam.
And Bryan had his very own groom’s cake in red velvet with a cream cheese icing. He’s a chemistry major headed to grad school in a few weeks, so this science themed cake was perfect for him.
As the sun set, the mountains took on a shade of misty blue, and the light filtered through the rows of grape vines in golden ribbons.
The newlyweds dashed off just before sunset on their way to a tropical honeymoon and a new life together.
Thanks for allowing me to share this process with you again. It’s a lot of work, as you’ve seen, but for a result like this it’s hard not to want to do another one.
I’m sorry we ruined your cake with our terrible cutting job! But the cake was absolutely delicious and just what I had imagined. You do beautiful work
Believe me, I was ready to let it go by the time you cut into it. I’m so glad it was what you were looking for and so happy I could do that for you guys.
Beautiful cake!! And sounds delish! Great work! I can’t wait to see your future cake designs!
Thanks! There will definitely be more in the future.
Wow. That view is absolutely breathtaking.
The cake looks fabulous too (and so do you!), and I love the nerdy groom’s cake. 😉

Truly the most beautiful venue I’ve ever seen. Kinda jealous.
Your cake looks absolutely amazing! I love that it tasted as good as it looks. There’s nothing worse than a pretty cake that doesn’t deliver on deliciousness.
What a gorgeous setting too! The bride’s dressing was so pretty, too! Everything is just picture perfect.
Thanks, I’m pretty proud of it.
She’s just a classy girl all around, so naturally it all turned out lovely.
Beautiful setting for the wedding and your cake turned out quite lovely! What a process and a labor of love it was, and I imagine a fair amount of stress it was, being a wedding cake and all. The bride and groom are lucky to have you for a friend.

That is amazing that you made that cake! If I knew you made cakes when I got married, I would have hired you!

I’m still trying to decide if I want to try to do this for profit. So far I’ve only done cakes as gifts.
Gorgeous – congratulations on creating such a beautiful cake, it is an amazing amount of work (from what you described)!!
I’m blown away!!!! That cake turned out beautiful and I liked that it was simple but elegant. You really have many amazing talents. You should maybe work at a bakery part time or something. You might like it and if you don’t you can do it on the side at home. The setting for the wedding was breathtaking, so were the couple.
Gorgeous, gorgeous wedding.
And I am pleased to see you getting so much practice for your most important wedding cake job yet: my wedding to my imaginary fiancee.
Keep up the good work.
That cake looks absolutely stunning. You must be so proud!! Gorgeous setting, and you look so lovely in your colorful dress!

Wow the view is breathtaking, definitely the most beautiful place I’ve seen to take the vows, even more so than a beach or something. Great inspiration for if my boyfriend ever asks me

What a lovely wedding. The groom’s cake is beautiful as well.
Congratz for the couple and Alayna for creating such very beautiful cakes !
Hey, I’m in the same boat for a cake this weekend, wedding cake that is. Please let me know what size cake pans you used. I’m thinking 14, 10, and 6? I’m skiing the same sizes and it’s nice to see it finished
Gosh, it’s been so long since I made this and the pans are all packed away so I can’t go look, but I think your size guesses are right. I’m almost positive the biggest one is a 14. So if you want it kind of evenly tall and wide, 6/10/14 sounds good, if you want it more shortish and wide you could do 8/11/14. I remember having a very hard time finding a decorative base anywhere that was larger than 15, so that’s something to consider too.
Alayna you did a wonderful job.
You deserve a medal for making fondant on a cake.
I hate it! Not only to work with but think it tastes like sweetened clay.
I do however love buttercream … how sad to have to cover all that great buttercream with a sheet of leathery goo … LOL
Beautiful work
Thank you, Linda! It’s not my favorite either. I can understand the desire for that smooth look that you can only get with fondant, I just personally prefer the more rustic look of naked buttercream!
i dearly loved your cake journey. So honest and sweetly written. I’m proud of the commitment you made to your friends and the joy in the experience. It was cute at the end when those blue stripes managed to ‘hang on’. Good Luck in your future endeavors. I have stories I could share, but the Georgia heat would scare me right out of the kitchen!
